We have been busy while on semester break...
We were asked by our Mission Leaders to visit Monticristi branch. This is near the Hatian border (three hours away from Santiago).
This is the desert part of Dominican Republic

Here is Alexander, a new friend who served a mission in Puerto Rico and knows Pablo Toro! Pablo is a friend Elder Ellis baptized when he was a young missionary (45 yrs ago). A happy day!
We saw Hilton and his sister, Luz (not in pic) visiting their abuelo.
It was fun to see them while on break and to drive them home!

A moment of remembrance
A very sad time for the people of the Dominican Republic
The roof of a popular dance club in Santo Domingo collapsed onto several hundreds of people killing 221. Since it was a high profile dance club, several people from the DR included government, entertainers, and sports figures were included in the numbers of those who died. It was a time to pause and honor those who passed.

Semana Santa (Holy week)
In the DR everything closes down and there is much celebrating (eating) during the Holy week
Some YSA's surprised us with a traditional Dominican dinner!
We LOVE them so much!! It was fabulous!!

We went to Hato Mayor ward and afterwards fed the Missionaries

Then we went to the institute to feed the Elders, since our electricity was out in our apartments all afternoon, night and the next day.

It is both exciting and hard to say how quickly the time has flown by. We have already heard from the Mission Office with talk of our flight arrangements to Utah. We are learning so much and continue to learn every day. We are grateful for such wonderful opportunities to participate in this great work in Santiago, DR!
